Taste Waikato Cookbook Launch - St Peter's School

Thursday 11th October was a fantastic night and saw the launch of Rotary of Cambridge's most ambitious fundraiser yet - the Taste Waikato cook book, written by Jan Bilton and husband Michael Ryan! A large crowd of sponsors, Rotary club members and partners, guests, media, Mayor Jim and Robyn Mlychrest, Cambridge Isite and Chamber members attended this high class event. Attendees were treated with delicious samples of food from the book that Jan, Bev Heron and Deb Robinson created with alcohol and hors' d'oeuvres also supplied by Montana catering. Succulent ripe Kane's strawberries, Meyer cheese and Khasadi (spicy kiwifruit chutney), cheese balls and garlic mushrooms had guests flocking to the Taste Waikato table.

After attendees spent some time mixing and mingling, President Ray Milner welcomed everyone to the Taste Waikato launch, thanking them for coming and outlined what Rotary of Cambridge is about. Past President Roger Hill spoke about the project's history, how it was initiated with a brainstorming session and the three phases of the project - 1. Approaching and gaining sponsors to support the book 2. Writing, photographing, designing, producing and proofreading the material to send to the printers and 3. Marketing, selling and distributing the books. Roger announced Rotary of Cambridge stands to make at least $100,000 from the book sales if all 5,000 are printed. Roger then introduced Jan Bilton who used a slide show to highlight some of the beautiful pages in the book, described the food and mentioned some of the producers who have sponsored the book and thanked all the other sponsors who had contributed. Jan thanked her team of writer & husband Michael, Designer Debbie Morgan,  Roger Hill, Bev Heron, Deb Robinson, Helen Millward, Bruce Hancock, Julie Bryan, Robyn Crickett, Don Wilson and LesleyAnn Thomas. She described the journey of the book production and how much she enjoyed meeting all the food producers around the Waikato Coromandel area, admitting she wasn't aware when she started that there would be so many fantastic producers to choose from! The presentation was extremely well received with multiple queries on where and how to buy this stunning cook book. A fantastic night enjoyed by all and brilliant launch of Taste Waikato. Congratulations to Jan and her team!

Next week's Rotary meeting members will be notified on the process for selling the cook books. Bev Heron or a team member will outline this to the club. Taste Waikato will make superb Xmas presents for family or work colleagues so club members be sure to order yours early.
