NEW VENUE
NEW VENUE :Resthaven Community Centre
Start Date: 6 September

As members will know the High School has advised that we are no longer to serve alcohol at our meetings. This has lead to the search for alternative premises. The top two out of that process were the Moxon Center behind St Andrew’s Church and the Resthaven Community Centre.

The Board decided on Resthaven for the following reasons:
  • Moxon Centre would be fully catered (their kitchen and bar) – we’d be captive if they put up any of their charges in future;
  • Their meal cost would be $25, and their bar prices similar;
  • They have a $100 per meeting hire fee;
  • We would be unable to have fundraisers provide the meal.
  • Resthaven will allow us to continue as at present, we have agreed to make a donation the Resthaven for the use of their facilities.
Both facilities are comfortable and modern.

THIS WEEK'S NOTICES

SPEAKER
We had the privilege of hearing from the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Cancer Society CEO, Shelley Campbell. Shelley spoke about the work the Society does along with some quick facts on cancer and their organisation and a little about her own career.
  • Did you know that the services they provide to cancer patients and their families are free?
  • Or that they don’t rely on Government contracts to manage their $4.5 million yearly budget?
  • The Cancer Society offers a wide range of services from information & education to therapeutic massage to outreach nursing and the Cancer Society Lions Lodge – these are just a few of the services available
  • The Society also supports research projects and clinicians working on research
  • Alongside their paid staff, up to 750 volunteers support the Society
  • A pilot programme, Living For The Future, has been running for kids in the 6 – 12yrs age group to help them cope when one of their parents has cancer and is due to be rolled out on a bigger scale soon
  • And keep an eye out for the Bowel Cancer screening programme coming to our region late 2019 / early 2020

If you’d like more information on the Cancer Society, head to https://waikato-bop.cancernz.org.nz/

Thanks

The CHS Netball team catered our dinner this week and in return received a cheque for $750 which will go towards their competition week coming up a little later in the year. Good luck to them!

This Coming Week

It’s our AGM and we’d love to see you all there.

Marshalling for Harriers.
September 16th Rotary Cambridge is marshalling and manning the water stations for Cambridge Harriers, like we normally do.
I will be coordinating this event and require a big input from our members.
This date has been in Bulletin for a number of weeks and I hope you have all kept this date free.
NB.You have all been included on my list unless you apologies directly to me, or you are on LOA or are of the older generation.
The day will be no longer than 9am till 1pm. Most stations will be between 1 and 2 hours duration.
Partners and children would also me most welcome to help.
I will provide a list and maps closer to the time.

YOUR WEEKLY ROSTER

    Please take note of the Duty Roster and be in good time for your duties.

    NOTE The new Duty "Magic Moment" is: A short comment referencing something in our community, or within Rotary which you find inspiring, encouraging or adding to the joy and pleasure of life. It should be an uplifting story that takes no more than two minutes to deliver. Ideally it will be something from the last week or so, something others may not yet have heard about.

    For example Ray started the year by referencing two inspiring young Kiwi’s honoured, that week, by the Queen for their work in gender equality and mental health. They were Alexia Hilbertidou (aged 19) and Ezekiel Raui (aged 20) who had already made a difference.
