From President David
It's always a privilege to have our RYLA students come back to the Club. McGregor, Lani and Kaylin shared a presentation with our Club on their experiences at RYLA earlier this year. They spoke confidently and were extremely supportive of the RYLA programme. DG Bill spoke for a few minutes about the RYLA programme and how his Club visits are going around the District.
The programme was packed and there seems a large amount of moving parts in the Club at the moment. There were 8 x 1 min updates and an update from David Blewden about Urban Miners and progress with the District Conference organising. We all need to support David in his planning for this very important Club and District event.
Next week we can spend some time with our Committees and further the great work the Club is working on this year.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend
President David
Guest Speakers - RYLA
McGregor, Lani and Kaylin talked about the RYLA programme, their experiences and lessons learnt. Team building exercises were based on Tuckman's team trajectory model of Forming, Storming, Norming and Performing. The activities were challenging and didn't always have the desired outcome, but that was all part of the learning. Throughout the programme participants learned how to support one another, identified their strengths and remain friends today.
There were some great speakers and here are some quotes from them that continue to resonate:
❖ If service is beneath you, leadership is beyond you
❖ I am one person’s worth, no more no less
❖ Lean in to the uncomfortable
❖ Seven times down, eight times up
❖ I’m Team Human
❖ Ake ake ake
❖ Don’t be a d**k
A couple of key takeaways was to continue to value relationships and networking as well as enjoying their leadership journey.

AND THE TOAST
At our regular meetings we will toast the members of a Rotary club in another part of the world. The toast reminds us of the international nature of Rotary and that clubs like ours are active and doing good on every continent and it is one of our 3 focus areas this year, Rotary Awareness. The duty involves researching a Rotary Club somewhere in the world, making contact with them, sourcing an image or brief on the club and we have a toast to the Club. Ideally finding out things like: the size of the Club, ratio of males to females, age of the Club, main Community Projects and Fundraising activities gives us an appreciation of the wider Rotary World. (Pres David happy for you to include a Power Point of slide of club if needed. He is happy to assist with this and advise as needed.
