THIS WEEK'S NOTICES

Wow! Isobel Gretton

What a wonderful treat on to kick off the evening. Isobel delivered her winning speech from the Inter-Schools Speech Competition to us. So wonderful to hear from a confident young person. Isobel had us all laughing and smiling as she delivered her “Teenager in Training” speech.

Thank you Isobel!

Last Week’s Main Presenter - “Guinness Down Under”

Rod Smith, author, journalist, and self-confessed scribe-a-manic talked about the history of that wonderful black velvety substance, Guinness. Some quick facts for you:

  • His book, Guinness Down Under has been a 15 – 20 year labour of love

  • The Guinness family initially brewed ale before switching to a porter

  • There’s only 4 ingredients in a drop of Guinness – H2O, barley, yeast & hops

  • The yeast used today is a descendent of the original yeast used in the brewery in the 1800s

  • The widget aids with the 2-gas pour which is a combination of nitrogen and CO2

  • That same widget is a hallmark of the Guinness product

  • It takes 190 seconds to settle the beer after the pour

  • These days, the Guinness family own just 5% of the shares in the business

  • NZ brews under license

Coming Up On Thursday – Sam Voss

Samantha Voss will be talking to us about her rowing career and Olympic goals so get ready for an evening of inspiration.

Cambridge Garden Festival

Carey shared with us that 998 festival tickets, 89 Lilies by Blewden tour ticks and 110 lunches were sold. The profit from the event is a little over $30,000. Amazing! And planning is underway for next year!

Cambridge Christmas Parade

CHRISTMAS PARADE  Christmas Parade, CHRISTMAS PARADE

Thanks to those who have put their names forward as marshalls for the Christmas Parade. Very much appreciated.  However it would be great if we can get another 5 members to become part of the group.

If you can join the team just let me know via my e-mail below or give me a call on my mobile.  It would be great to get a team of 15 as this would be a good number and the organisers would be very pleased.

PLEASE; IT WOULD BE GREAT TO HEAR FROM YOU.
