THIS WEEK'S NOTICES

Speaker
Anne Blewden and Deb Robinson – Days for Girls

Anne and Deb were introduced by Andrew Bateman. Days for Girls was started in the USA in 2008 and is a global non-profit organisation. Partners of our Club have been actively involved for nearly three years. During a visit to Africa, the founder learned that many young women living in poor and undeveloped areas were missing school each month during their period due to a complete lack of feminine hygiene products. Consequently this often had a serious impact on their education and their prospects later in life. Thus the mission of Days for Girls is education, safety and dignity. Days for Girls around the world make and distribute sustainable, reusable shields through 720 teams of sewers, and have now supplied over one million girls in a very wide range of countries. Our local group consists of about 23 women, eight to ten of whom sew once a month and complete about 100 shields which are in turn packaged up in attractive, practical bags
ready for distribution. This is inspiring work which Anne and Deb presented very well with the assistance of a Powerpoint presentation.

Anne and Deb, together with Sue Bullick were all recently made honorary members of Rotary Cambridge reflecting their considerable dedication to this and other Club projects.

The vote of thanks was provided by Bill Macmillan.

YOUR WEEKLY ROSTER

Please take note of the Duty Roster and be in good time for your duties.

NOTE The Duty "Magic Moment" is: A short comment referencing something in our community, or within Rotary which you find inspiring, encouraging or adding to the joy and pleasure of life. It should be an uplifting story that takes no more than two minutes to deliver. Ideally it will be something from the last week or so, something others may not yet have heard about.
