Next week our first meeting for the year is at the Cambridge Club on Thornton Road for a social evening of Bowls and/or Petanque, darts and/or pool, accompanied by a fully-catered barbecue meal catered for by Brian Paynter. Flat soled shoes are the order of the day for anyone wishing to participate in the outdoor activities.
This is a partners evening.
Apologies for the event are as usual via txt, phone message or email & must be in by Monday 21st January for catering purposes. Those not apologising will be assumed to be attending & charged in their accounts as per usual.
Also our first Rotary meeting for 2019 is the following week on the 31st Jan from 5.30pm at Resthaven.
The Club requires a Club Champion to organise a clean-up of Lake Te Koutu one weekend in February as a part of our International Rotary Days, whereby clubs seek to do a public project or involve the public in a project or activity which will increase publicity locally for the Club and for Rotary International. Hopefully we will get a full club turn out for this. Please see either President Ray or President Elect Robyn if this is your thing. We will need to be quick out of the blocks with this first project for the year.

Water scheme in the highlands of Papua New Guinea
The following email has been received from DG Graham updating on progress towards funding a water scheme in the highlands of Papua New Guinea. As you know our club has made a substantial contribution following the DG's visit.
Hi all
Rotary is starting to crank up again after the Christmas New Year break. I trust you are all well refreshed for the remainder of the 2018-19 Rotary year.
Further to my previous email we now have received the following pledges for this PNG project: My target is $6000.
Rotary Cambridge $2000
Rotary Kihikihi $500
Rotary Te Awamutu $500
Rotary Tokoroa $200
Rotary Otorohanga $600
Rotary Waikato Sunrise $500
Rotary Hamilton Central $500
Rotary Matamata $500
Total $5300
I would like to complete the fundraising for this project by Wednesday 23rd January.
This will enable Dr Fraser Macdonald (Waikato University) to get on and complete the project and in doing so, highlights my message of Rotarians being "Good people doing Good in the world."
If any club who has not pledged to date but would like to and get us to the $6000 target, then please let me know asap.
You will all "Be the Inspiration" for the village of Sambate, PNG.
Regards
Graham Jull
