THIS WEEK'S NOTICES

Paul Harris Fellow Awarded

Karen May of Kaz Design was presented with a Paul Harris Fellow award on Thursday night recognising her significant involvement over the years in the Club's Cambridge Findit Directory and other Rotary projects as well as her contribution to the community. Karen joins an elite group of non-Rotarians in our community have been recipients of this award. Congratulations Karen.

Last Week – Kevin Burgess

On Thursday, Kevin spoke about his passion (I’m pretty sure he called it an obsession) – for the history of  WW1 battlefields and commemorations   from a NZ perspective. We are so fortunate to have someone like Kevin in our community acting as a custodian of this piece of history for our town. The quick facts for you:

  • Kemal Atatürk is one of four heroes for Kevin (others include 2 family members and a rugby player)
  • Until the end of 1916, NZ soldiers volunteered for service, from 1917 they were conscripted
  • Kevin has been to numerous commemorations including Gallipoli, Passchendaele and Le Quesnoy
  • When Kevin is travelling and visiting WW1 memorial sites he actively seeks out the graves or plaques for Cambridge soldiers and leaves a poppy with them
Thank you for sharing this piece of history with us Kevin.

Coming Up On Thursday – Party, Party, Party

Our last gathering for the year is being hosted by the fabulous Bob Teale and his wife, Robyn-Anne. We’ll be at Bob’s property and it’s BYO drinks and a chair. Please bring:
  • a gift to the value of $10 and if you’re a man, bring a man gift, if you’re woman, bring a woman gift
  • your own crockery, glassware & cutlery.
You must advice your attendance by midday Monday at the latest.

Directories

If you haven’t delivered your Cambridge Findit yet please can you take care deliver it in the dry and over the next few days – especially now that the weather is fining up!

Waiheke Weekend - 29/30/31 March 2019

Robyn Crickett is needing to get firm confirmations of those in interested in going on the Waiheke Weekend so please ask partners and confirm with her if it is a goer for you. We will need to secure accommodation by next week with a deposit. Robyn will be sending an email to those names on the circulated list and expecting a confirmation either way and whether some will be interested in sharing two bedroom units with other members (there are 1 and 2 bedroom units available - 2 BRs being the cheaper option).

BOOKARAMA, BOOKARAMA

This Monday( December 10th) 9.00am-12.00pm at Achievement House we are having our first sorting for our next Bookarama in May 2019.
There are a reasonable number of books to get through so if you can make it would be a great to have you join the team. See you there.

Key Updates

  • The Achievement House Christmas party is this coming Wednesday so if you’ve volunteered to help with pick-ups from the cafes and restaurants supporting the party please don’t forget
  • Know of a great garden? Carey is looking for small, large, town or country gardens for next year’s Garden Festival so if you can feed through some contacts to Carey that would be great
  • Conference early bird registrations have been extended to the 14th of this month

RYLA

Do you know a 20-26 year old? Are they a RYLA possibility? If so, get in touch with Bill Robinson. This is the most wonderful leadership programme for our young adults so encourage those young ones around you to get involved.

Is It In Your Diary?

Have you popped into the Christmas Festival at the town hall? It’s on until December 16th and is well worth a visit. And if you’re a last minute Christmas shopper, head into our gorgeous town on Friday 21st – it’s late night shopping right here in Cambridge.

YOUR WEEKLY ROSTER

Please take note of the Duty Roster and be in good time for your duties.

NOTE The Duty "Magic Moment" is: A short comment referencing something in our community, or within Rotary which you find inspiring, encouraging or adding to the joy and pleasure of life. It should be an uplifting story that takes no more than two minutes to deliver. Ideally it will be something from the last week or so, something others may not yet have heard about
