Kia Ora Carey, How are you??? Welcome to 2022, and all that it has to offer!! I’m absolutely ecstatic to announce details of this year's tour to you and our fellow cycling/ film fans around New Zealand. This, our 2022 collection, our 8th incantation, has 12 mesmerizing films that are as varied and diverse as you could hope for. The power of storytelling is at the forefront of what The Big Bike Film Night offers, and these stories have been specifically sought to delight you - our two wheel devotee, whatever you ride. For our burgeoning bike tour- we're going places! We ride into our regular places and this year, some new bike friendly locations - Takapuna, Thames, Gisborne, Reefton, and Kaikōura; all up visiting 42 locations across our great country, top to tail. I'm pretty excited about it all (can you tell?), and below are details of our tour schedule.

Apr. 30, 2022 - May 01, 2022
Join us for an overnight, two-day cycle tour in the Ruapehu District. The plan is to do the Ohakune Old Coach Road ride on Saturday 30th and the Fishers Track on the Sunday 1st May. We would base ourselves in Owhango and stay the Saturday night in the Owhango Hotel or overflow accommodation in the area. Bike shuttles will be arranged for both days.
Package price $205 per person for all of the above. Ohakune Old Coach Road This is a 15km cycle track that winds its way from Horopito down to Ohakune. This is a section of the New Zealand Cycle Trail called Mountain to Sea. https://www.visitruapehu.com/see-and-do/ohakune-old-coach-road The reason the track is there is due to an old cobblestone road being built before the railway went all the way from Wellington to Auckland. It was an engineering feat to connect the North and South and in the interim travellers either boarded a stage coach at Horopito and joined the train journey south at Ohakune or vice versa. The track heads one way from Horopito down to Ohakune and generally takes 2-3 hours. Fishers Track Fishers Track is also a downhill track from National Park down to the Retaruke Valley. The track runs for 27km and is a Grade 2 track. The grade is Intermediate Grade 3 according to DOC. https://www.visitruapehu.com/see-do/cycling-mountain-biking/fishers-track Transport We would car pool to and from Owhango and arrange these details closer to the time. Please register interest for this event so we can secure accommodation as soon as possible. |
